This Grant has been established from a Bequest to the College from the estate of Don and Lorraine Jacquot.
Aims of the Research Initiative:
Applications:
Applications will be received jointly from individuals and the departments which are willing to host the project and the fellow. A senior clinician should act as project leader and as such be responsible for development, administration and leadership. Projects may include the participation of other centres in Australia and New Zealand or internationally. However, the coordinating centre should be in Australia or New Zealand. The project leader should form a team, including a member with expertise in clinical epidemiology or clinical trials. Links with the International Nephrology Cochrane Collaboration and the Australian Kidney Trials Network is encouraged.
Funding:
The Grant allows for funding of up to $250,000 per year for three years. The proposed project budget should be detailed and include salary support for the lead applicant where needed, and secretarial/nursing, computing, statistical and infrastructure support. Travel costs between participating centres may be included.
Assessment of Applications:
Applications will be considered by a Committee chaired by the President of the ANZSN plus three other members appointed by the Council of ANZSN and three appointed by the Research Advisory Committee of the RACP. In addition the Committee will include an expert in clinical epidemiology/clinical trial procedures. External independent review of projects will be sought. Advice may be sought on contracts from the NH&MRC Clinical Trials Unit.
A project will be funded only if the proposal is of sufficient quality in the view of the Assessment Committee. Advice may be proffered to the project team and changes to the proposal may need to be made. No more than one new project will be funded any year.
Whereas funding will be for three years, annual assessment of the project will be made by the Assessment Committee to ensure adequate progress is occurring.
The final product of the project should be a full paper in a prestigious international medical journal. The lead applicant should make an interim report to the Annual Scientific Meeting of the ANZSN at the end of the second year with a final report being made prior to publication of the study results.
